Two Campti Men Injured in Single-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 493

Two North Natchitoches Parish men were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on La Hwy 493 near Melrose just after noon today according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

At 12:28pm, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, Louisiana State Police, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS and Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #1 First Resonders responded to NATCOM 911 Center reports of a single-vehicle crash involving two serious injuries on La Hwy 493 near Melrose, La.

According to LSP, a 19-year-old Campti man operating a 2013 Hyundai passenger car was traveling westbound on La Hwy 493 at an apparent excessive speed when he left the roadway on the right side striking a driveway then going airborne hitting a fence. The vehicle then continued to travel through an open field striking several trees finally coming to a rest in a ravine.

Deputies say both the driver and a 21-year-old passenger from Campti were transported from the scene by EMS to an Alexandria hospital with what is believed to be serious non-life threatening injuries.

Both men were reportedly working construction on Cane River in the area and were traveling to get lunch when the crash occurred.

Trooper J.Axsom assigned to LSP Troop-E Alexandria investigated the crash.

Natchitoches Deputies would like to thank Fire District #1 Fire Responders and Patrick “Petey” Hicks with SWEPCO for their quick assistance and rendering first aid before EMS could arrive on scene.
