The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department in Leesville has announced the arrest of three people accused of trying to steal air conditioners in broad daylight.
According to Sheriff Sam Craft and Detective Rhonda Jordan, it began during the noon hour on Tuesday when a woman who lived east of Leesville heard a grinding noise outside of her home, and she looked outside to see that two men and a woman had her central AC unit disconnected and in the middle of the yard, and her neighbor’s AC unit already loaded on the truck.
When she went outside, the three fled in the truck, but she was able to get the license plate which showed it to be a rented vehicle.
Craft and Jordan said undercover officers began surveillance of the rental company and when the three returned the truck, they were arrested.
Those arrested were Ronna D. Jarrell, 48, James Michael Jeane, 47, James Pitts, 40, all of Evans, Louisiana. Each was charged with one count of Theft over $1500, one count of Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, and one count of Criminal Trespassing. Additionally, the Louisiana Department of Probation and Paroles has placed a parole hold on James Michael Jeane.
Craft and Jordan say the trio remains in the Vernon Parish Jail.
