Students at San Augustine ISD Head Back to School After Tornado

When School Superintendent Virginia Liepman first heard about the tornado hitting in San Augustine, they only thing she could think about was the safety of her students.

“When we determined that our kids were safe and there were no fatalities, I mean, what a relief, nothing else matters at that point,” said Liepman.

Liepman said after the storm went through, she got in her car to assess the damages.

“And although I feel like we did not have a lot structural damage to the high school, they did suffer damages to the baseball and football field,” said Liepman.

Schools were closed on Thursday and Friday due to minor damages to the roof. Officials wanted to ensure the buildings were safe.

“I had everybody check the buildings, the classrooms to make sure before we had the kids come back to school, (to make sure) that the structural integrity was there because we have to keep the kids safe,” said Liepman.

Liepman said since the storm, they also received an outpouring of support from surrounding schools and community.

“I have to tell you that this community … and I will try not to get teary because this is my home … but they are so strong and they have held together and my kids have been wonderful. And our staff, our faculty our principals, our board … I couldn’t have asked for a better team, and so we’ve done well, we’ve held together and we are stronger for it,” said Liepman.

School officials announced that they will seek assistance from rain gutters services to assess the extent of damage incurred to their roof, baseball, and football fields, collaborating closely with insurance adjusters to determine the necessary repairs. If you are from NC and in need of reliable roofing and gutter services, don’t hesitate to contact North Carolina location for assistance.
