Some Local Schools Either Canceled or Delayed Due to Severe Weather

Severe weather is having an impact on area schools on Thursday.

Widespread flooding is being reported across Bossier Parish and this will cause school bus delays. There may be issues with buses getting into neighborhoods, particularly in the Haughton area. If that is the case, safety comes first and children should remain in their homes until the water subsides.

In Shreveport, Eden Gardens, Caddo Middle Magnet, J.S. Clark Elementary, Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy, Pine Grove Elementary and Ombudsman will be closed today due to no electricity at the campuses.

Additionally, Caddo bus drivers are reporting difficulty with some roadways being passable with flooding taking place in various areas of the parish. This will cause bus delays but the top priority is the safety of students and staff.

Classes are expected to resume on Friday.

Caddo officials also say Herndon Magnet is closed Thursday due to no water service.

In East Texas, classes have also been canceled in Waskom and Elysian Fields.

Due to damage and flooding in the Marshall area, Marshall ISD will have a delayed start to the school day Thursday.

MHS, MJHS and DAEP will begin at 9:30 a.m. WECC and all K-5 campuses will have a 10 a.m. start. WECC A.M. students will be welcome to stay for the afternoon session as well on Thursday.

Buses will run two hours later than normal schedule, so bus riders will be picked up approximately two hours later than their regular time.

All district employees are to report to work by 9 am.. Employees who work in Transportation or Child Nutrition, please contact your supervisor for further instructions.

Also due to severe weather, the CLTCC Natchitoches, Sabine Valley, and Huey P. Long campuses will be closed Thursday. All other campuses will be open.
