Shreveport Man Wanted on Attempted Murder Charge

Shreveport police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a man wanted in an early morning murder attempt.

Police said an arrest warrant has been issued for Zachary Baird for attempted first-degree murder. He is possibly armed with a knife.

Cpl. Chris Bordelon said Baird is wanted in connection to an attack that happened at World’s Only Tattoo School at Marshall and Lake streets. Baird is suspected of breaking into the business, attacking the owner then setting fire to the building.

Officers noticed smoke coming from a nearby building. Ten trucks fought the fire for 30 minutes.

Leonard Pogue, the business owner, was found wandering down the street. He suffered multiple cuts to the head, Bordelon said.

Pogue, 74, was taken to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, where a spokeswoman said he was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon.

Pogue identified Baird as his attacker, Bordelon said.

Police said Baird is known to stay at the Salvation Army at 200 East Stoner and frequents the downtown area.
