Sheriff’s Deputies Investigate Shooting in Mount Union

A resident of the Mount Union Community northwest of Kirbyville is undergoing treatment after being shot outside her home early Monday morning.

Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said deputies were dispatched to the location on Farm to Market Road 1005 about a mile north of the intersection of FM-1013 shortly after 7:00 when it was reported that the incident had occurred.

Newman said the victim, whose name has not been released, has told investigators little about what happened except for the fact that she was approached by two men as she was leaving her driveway when the shooting occurred.

According to Newman, the victim, who reportedly teaches school in the Jasper Area, was transported by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where she is reported to be undergoing treatment for an injury to her hip.

Newman said he and others are investigating the incident in an attempt to find out exactly what happened and who was involved.

Newman said “Right now we don’t really know what happened or who we ought to be looking for.”
