Sheriff Says Body Found North of Kirbyville Might be Missing Woman

There might be a break in the case of woman from Christoval, who was reportedly last seen here in Jasper County, before being reported as missing. However, Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said late Thursday afternoon that “might was the key word.”

Newman said a body was found in a wooded near Kirbyville and he and others believed it could be the remains of Anabel Bruton, who was reported missing in March of this year by family members.

Officers believe 30 year old Bruton came to Jasper County after being charged with arson in connection with a fire that destroyed a home in Tom Green County in late December of last year.

News outlets in the San Angelo Area reported that Bruton actually produced a video of the fire and confessed to the crime on social media prior to her arrest. However, upon posting bond and being released from jail, Bruton apparently was staying with a friend in Kirbyville, prior to her disappearance.

According to Newman, the body was found in a wooded area just east of County Road 486, just off of Farm to Market Road 252, about two miles north of Kirbyville.

The victim was pronounced dead by Jasper County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace, Mike Smith, who ordered that an autopsy be peformed to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death.

Newman said he could not elaborate on what might of caused the death or release any other information, pending additional investigation and the results of the autopsy.
