Severe Weather System Moved Through Southwest Louisiana

A severe weather system moved through Calcasieu, Beauregard, Allen, Vernon, and Cameron Parish yesterday morning

12:00 PM- Road conditions in Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis, Beauregard and Vernon Parishes are reportedly clear at this time. Previous wrecks and debris have been cleared from roadways.

The tornado watch has been lifted from SWLA. However a flash flood warning remains in place for Jeff Davis and Calcasieu Parish.

11:20 AM- Several power outages are being updated at this time.

  • Beauregard Electric is reporting 481 customers without power.
  • Cleco is reporting 1,987 customers without power.
  • Entergy is reporting over 515 customers in SWLA without power.

11:00 AM- The Town of Welsh Police Department is asking residents to stay off the roads in the Welsh area.

La. 90 and some residential roads are flooded and impassable.

10:40 AM- The tornado warning continues for Crowley, Rayne, and Gueydan. The Vernon Parish Sheriff Department is reporting a road closure at this time. La. 111 North in Burr Ferry is closed. Debris from the storm is blocking the roadway. Crews are waiting on the arrival of heavy equipment to remove the tree from the roadway.

A traffic accident is blocking the left lane of I-10 westbound at this time. A jackknifed semi-trailer near Opelousas Street is causing delays. Motorists are advised to avoid the area while crews work to clear the roadway.

The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office is also notifying residents that the phone lines are currently down. BPSO can not receive phone calls but if you need assistance or have an emergency you are asked to call 911 until the problem is resolved.

Several power outages are also being reported at this time.

  • Beauregard Electric is reporting 1,038 customers without power.
  • Cleco is reporting 2,392 customers without power.
  • Entergy is reporting over 860 customers in SWLA without power.
