The search for a fisherman presumed drowned in Toledo Bend Reservoir is resuming Wednesday morning after being called off for the night, Sabine Parish Coroner Ron Rivers said.
Divers had been searching an area about 100 feet off the boat launch at Tranquility Bay since shortly after 5 p.m. Rivers said the search area will be expanded further out into the lake.
Authorities were alerted after witnesses noticed a truck that had been parked and idling at the launch for several hours. The man’s wallet, keys and other personal belongings were still in the truck.
The lead rope was not attached to the boat, Rivers said. He speculates the man may have been trying to retrieve it when he fell in. The water is approximately 20 feet off the launch area.
The man has not been publicly identified but KTBS 3 News has learned that he is from Ascension Parish. He is believed to have been fishing in the area in preparation for an upcoming fishing tournament.
