An order was entered on September 9, 2021 by a federal judge dismissing all claims against Sabine Parish District Attorney Don Burkett, and his office, made in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in January of this year.

The lawsuit was filed as a result of an assault on the plaintiff victim in the Many High School gymnasium locker room in January of 2020 by other students. The federal judge found no legal basis for the claims made against Burkett and his office.

The defendants in the criminal case in this matter have been prosecuted an a Sabine Parish Judge has sentenced these individuals for the crimes committed. DA Burkett said “As expected, the Federal Court found our office did nothing wrong in the handling of this matter, and my office continues to handle matters-like this one-taking into account the law, the facts, and my professional obligation to see justice served.”
