HUMAN LIBRARY COLLECTION
10:00 am and 2:00 pm at Northwestern State University
Northwestern State University will present its first Human Library Collection event Wednesday, Sept. 11 in which panelists will discuss their experiences serving in the military and/or being part of a military family. Sessions will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when active duty and retired military personnel, along with their families, will offer perspectives on the challenges and rewards of military life. Sessions will take place in the NSU-TV Studio, Kyser Hall Room 138. Guests may attend one or both events.
NSU’s Inaugural Human Library Collection event will “be honoring military members — veterans, active members as well as their dependents because their story is important also,” said Deborah Huntington, head of Collection Development and Cataloging at NSU’s Eugene P. Watson Library.

8:00 am – 9:00 am on the Clyde Fant Parkway.
This will include colors being posted by the Byrd High School ROTC. Taps will also be played and a piper from the Caddo Sheriff’s Office will play Amazing Grace. Mayor Adrian Perkins, Shreveport Fire Chief Scott Wolverton and chaplain, Dr. Randy Harper, and Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond will be at this event.

12:00 pm at Bossier Parish Community College in the Stephen W. Slaughter Performing Arts Theatre.
The Airline High School JROTC will present the colors, followed by a musical performance by the BPCC Gospel Choir. Guest speaker, retired IRS agent, who was at the Pentagon when it was attacked on 9/11 will share his experience.

11:30 am at the Bossier Civic Center
Patriot Awards finalists and the 2019 winners will be announced at the Bossier Chamber’s 2019 Patriot Awards. You will have a chance to honor and thank first responders. Cajun Navy creator Rob Gaudet is the featured speaker for the event.
YMCA DAY OF REMEMBRANCE COMMEMORATIVE STAIR CLIMB
5:00 am – 9:00 pm at the facility on Knight at Preston
You are invited to join with others in the community to climb 1,980 steps, the same number as the World Trade Center. Eight stairmasters will be set up in the lobby of the YMCA. Each person will have a 25-minute time slot. Fire suits will be provided if people would like to wear one while walking their steps to commemorate the firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11. Participants who donate $10 or more, or who climb 110 flights of stairs, will receive a commemorative 9/11 pin for your contributions. All funds will go to first responders in Shreveport-Bossier.

The goal of the Moving Tribute is to have the American Flag in constant motion from sunrise to sunset to honor all those that have been impacted from the attacks of 9/11 on American soil.
The constant movement of the Flag is to show our Strength and Unity as a Nation. Team RWB invites you to join our community this year to stand as one.

The 9/11 Attacks accomplished something that no other tragedy has done in modern times. It brought together unprecedented strength in our community and as a Nation.

There are two ways you can honor the victims and survivors. First is through Volunteering and the Second is with Donating Blood. We will have the Life Share Bus onsite from 12:00PM to 5:00PM.

9/11 PATRIOT DAY/NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

On Patriot Day / National Day of Service and Remembrance, Americans pause to reflect on the devastating September 11 terror attacks. We commemorate those we lost, and give thanks to the brave first responders that put their lives on the line to help. So, this 9/11, take a moment to remember with us. Byrd High School will be posting the colors and playing the Taps. Amazing Grace will be played by a local Piper. Speakers will include Mayor Adrian Perkins, Fire Chief Scott Wolverton, Police Chief Ben Raymond, and SFD Chaplain Randy Harper. The public is encouraged to attend!!!
The memorial is located next to the Shreveport Aquarium on Clyde Fant Parkway.
BPCC’S 9/11 REMEMBRANCE PROGRAM
Bossier Parish Community College will pause to reflect and remember the victims and events of September 11, 2001.
The day will begin at 8:30 am with a visual display in BPCC Quad. A series of photographs and text documents will serve as a historic timeline, taking guests through the events of that historic day as it happened. More than 2,900 American flags will be placed in the quad, each with a name written on it of a life lost in the terrorist attack.
Bossier City Police & Fire will have vehicles and equipment on site and personnel from Barksdale Air Force Base will also be on campus.
At noon, we invite the public to join us in the Stephen W. Slaughter Performing Arts Theatre (Building C) on the BPCC campus, 6220 E. Texas Street, for a special commemorative program. The Airline High School JROTC will present the colors, followed by a musical performance by the BPCC Gospel Choir. Guest speaker Roy Lively will share his experience from Sept. 11, 2001. Roy, a retired IRS agent, was at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. when the plane hit.
“We wanted give both our campus community and the Shreveport/Bossier community a way to reflect back on the tragic events of Sept 11, 2001,” says BPCC Campus Counselor Carrie Coley. “In moving forward as a nation, we have to honor days like 9/11 and remember the tragedy while honoring the heroes of that day the days after.”
These events are free to attend and open to the public.
BOSSIER CITY 9/11 MEMORIAL CEREMONY
9:00 am at the Liberty Garden 620 Benton Road
Keynote speaker will be USAF Major General James W. Graves. There also will be remarks from Bossier City Mayor Lorenz Walker. Bossier Elementary School 3rd grade student Mazari Knight will present her winning composition from the school’s essay contest entitled “What is a Hero?” The ceremony will conclude with the playing of Taps by Ava Sullivan of the Parkway High School band.
