On Thursday, the National Weather Service in Shreveport sent out storm survey teams to Ruston, LA, San Augustine, TX and northern Caddo Parish to survey storm damage from Wednesday night’s storms.
According to NWS meteorologist, preliminary results indicate at least an EF-3 tornado ripped through Ruston, LA Wednesday night.
The preliminary results also indicate that at least an EF-2 tornado touched down in San Augustine, TX and at least an EF-1 tornado touched down near Mooringsport, LA.
Enhanced Fujita Scale:
EF-0 Tornado: 65-85 mph winds
EF-1 Tornado: 86-110 mph winds
EF-2 Tornado: 111-135 mph winds
EF-3 Tornado: 135-165 mph winds
EF-4 Tornado: 166-200 mph winds
EF-5 Tornado: Winds greater than 200 mph.
According the the Enhanced Fujita Scale, the tornado that hit Ruston produced winds of at least 135 mph or greater.
The NWS in Shreveport will release their complete storm report with the exact strength and track of the tornadoes later this evening.
