Officer Josh Hadnot of the Jasper Police Department said Friday that he and others had identified the body that was found on Wednesday behind O’Reilly Auto Parts on South Wheeler Street.
According to Hadnot, officers believe the remains to be that of a man who lived not far from where the body was found. However, Hadnot said he could not release the name of the deceased because they were still in the process of trying to locate and notify the man’s next of kin.
Officers say an autopsy revealed that the man who has only been described as a 47 year old white male, died as the result of a heart attack. However, how his unclothed body was in an open field behind the auto parts store is still unknown.
Police say the body was discovered by a worker at the auto parts store that had stepped outside to take a smoke when she spotted the body in a brushy area.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Raymond Hopson who ordered that an autopsy be performed.
