A Sunday evening crash claimed the life of a 21-year-old Pineland resident. The Texas Department of Public Safety says Zachary Franklin died in the one-vehicle accident on Farm to Market Road 1, about 8 miles west of San Augustine.

Troopers say Franklin was traveling northbound in a 2015 Nissan passenger vehicle at an unsafe speed when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with trees.

Franklin was pronounced dead at the scene.
