One Person Injured When Vehicle Leaves Road Near Jasper and Farrsville

The driver of a sport utility vehicle is undergoing treatment for the injuries he received in a one vehicle auto accident that occurred shortly before 7:00 on Tuesday evening, just east of the Jasper-Newton County Line.

The volunteers of the Burkeville Fire Department were first to arrive at the scene and immediately went to work trying to rescue the driver from the vehicle and at the same time called for help from the East End Volunteer Fire Department to assist in traffic control.

Firemen used the hydraulic tool known as the “Jaws of LIfe” to rescue the driver from the vehicle and transfer him to a helicopter and then he was flown to a hospital in Beaumont, where he was at last word being treated for what was said to be serious injuries.

Those at the scene said it appeared that vehicle was traveling along Highway 63, near the intersection of Newton County Road 1075, when it for some unknown reason, left the road and turned over.

The name of the driver and additional details have not been released, pending an investigation into the incident.
