One Person Injured in Accident Involving Motorcycle Near Dam B

Beech Grove firefighters responded to the Dam B Community in northeast Tyler County Friday afternoon to assist with a major accident. It happened shortly before 2:00 on Highway 190 about a quarter-mile east of Farm to Market Road 92 in the Dam B Community.

Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said the crash involved a truck and a 2017 Harley Davidson “trike” motorcycle. Gunter said the occupants on the motorcycle were a couple from Michigan who had been camping at the nearby Walnut Ridge Park at Dam B.

Gunter also noted that the motorcycle briefly caught on fire, but the flames were out when firemen arrived.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark later said that the couple, Charles Roger Funk, 74, and Darlene Nancy Funk, 73, were traveling eastbound, followed by a 2017 Toyota pickup truck, driven by Michael Keiffer, 45, of Jasper.

Clark said the motorcycle pulled over to the shoulder of the highway and then made a U-turn in the path of the pickup truck, resulting in a collision.

Clark said Mr. Funk, who was operating the motorcycle, was not injured, but Mrs. Funk was transported to a Lufkin hospital for treatment of what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries. She also said that Mr. Funk received a citation for Turning when Unsafe.
