One Dead, One in Custody Following Apparent Stabbing at Local Motel

Jasper Police are investigating the stabbing death of woman that is believed to have occurred on Wednesday evening at a local motel.

Jasper Police Chief Gerald Hall said emergency dispatchers received a call shortly before 7:00, from a man who stated that an officer was needed at the Rodeway Inn Motel, near the intersection of Highways 190 and 96.

Hall said an officer arrived at the scene to find a man who was covered in blood standing behind the car with his hands up. Hall said the officer then went to the vehicle, where he found a woman behind the wheel who had apparently been stabbed several times.

The woman, who has not been identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, who also has not been identified by authorities, was taken into custody and placed in the back of a police car.

Even though the names have not been released, KJAS Radio News has learned that both the deceased and the suspect were residents of Jasper.

An investigation is continuing into the incident as detectives try to obtain further details.
