A college baseball game will give people more opportunities to support tornado relief efforts at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston.
The campus and the city of Ruston were damaged by a tornado that struck early Thursday morning, killing two people.
Widespread damage throughout the Lincoln Parish city included several of Louisiana Tech’s athletic facilities.
On Tuesday evening, Northwestern State University’s athletics department will collect cash donations during the NSU Demons’ game against the visiting LaTech Bulldogs.
Members of the Northwestern State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be stationed at the gate leading into the stadium in Natchitoches.
Plus, all proceeds from sales of concessions during the game will be donated to the relief effort, said Jason Pugh, assistant sports information director at Northwestern State.
The game will get underway at 6 p.m.
Beforehand, a contingent of Northwestern State leaders will make a presentation to Louisiana Tech Athletics Director Tommy McClelland, who is a former two-sport letterman at NSU, and LaTech head coach Lane Burroughs, who skippered Northwestern State from 2013-16.
Representing NSU will be campus President Chris Maggio, Athletics Director Greg Burke, Student Government Association President Jacob Ellis, head baseball coach Bobby Barbier and Natchitoches Mayor Lee Posey.
And during the game, the Demons will fly the Louisiana Tech flag alongside the American and Louisiana flags behind the outfield wall in a show of solidarity with LaTech, Pugh said.
