Newton High School Placed on Lockdown After Social Media Threat

The Newton Independent School District on Tuesday issued a letter to parents saying that a threat posted on the social media app known as “SnapChat” prompted a lockdown of Newton High School, and will also result in a heightened level of security.

Superintendent Michelle Barrow said that the threatening message was aimed at both students and staff, and law enforcement was contacted immediately. She said the high school was locked down, and officers checked the campus, confirming that it was safe.

Barrow also said that the specific students and staff members that were threatened have been made aware.
