New Details Learned About Shooting That Occurred Monday

KJAS News has learned new details about a late Monday afternoon shooting incident. A report filed by officers said that they responded to Jasper Memorial Hospital when staff there reported that a shooting victim had drove himself to the emergency room.

The report said that the victim, a 16-year-old male, had a gunshot wound to his left thigh and his left hand.

According to the report, the juvenile was initially uncooperative with officers, refusing to tell them where the incident occurred or who his legal guardian was. However, the report said that he later told them that he was on an unknown street in Jasper with the handgun on his lap when it accidentally discharged.

Police Chief Gerald Hall said it was learned that the gun had been reported stolen out of Lufkin, but it was unknown how the juvenile came to be in possession of it.

Chief Hall declined to release the identity of the juvenile.
