A Zavalla man died at a Nacogdoches hospital late Tuesday night after he was struck by two vehicles on U.S. Highway 59.

According to a press release, the man has been identified as Bernard Charles Kifer III, 32.

The auto-pedestrian incident occurred in the 5400 block of U.S. 59.

“Nacogdoches County Combined dispatch received several calls last night shortly before 10:00 p.m. that there was a male subject that was darting in and out of the roadway on Highway 59 South,” a post on the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. “Several callers advise that they had nearly run over the man.”

NCSO patrol units were dispatched out to the scene, but Kifer was struck by two vehicles before they arrived, the press release stated. Deputies got to the scene a short time after Kifer was hit, and they started performing CPR on him.
