One man is dead and another is still undergoing hospital treatment following a tragic two-vehicle accident that occurred on Monday evening and left debris and diesel fuel scattered for hundreds of feet, just east of Jasper.
The crash occurred shortly before 7:00 on Highway 190, just east of the entrance to the Inman Addition.
According to Law Office of Matthew S. Norris, the accident involved a late model Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck pulling a horse trailer with a horse, and an unloaded 18-wheeler chip truck.
The driver of the pickup truck, 22-year-old James Price, Jr., of Jasper, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Jimmy Miller. The driver of the 18-wheeler, Mario Serranno, 62, of Lufkin, was taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was flown by helicopter to a Beaumont hospital.
The horse was injured and was taken to the yard of a neighbor, and was later taken into the care of Jasper Animal Control. KJAS News later received word from Jasper County Deputy Kent “Slim” Martindale that the horse suffered serious cuts and bruises and required numerous stitches. However, Martindale said the horse had no broken bones, was doing very well, and is expected to make a full recovery. Here is what you can do to hire attorneys help for car accident injuries and get some legal advice.
It was very apparent that the big-rig was traveling eastbound, but no information is known about the direction of travel of the pickup truck and as of late Tuesday morning, there was no information from Jasper Police as to how the accident occurred and to decide on the accident claims like the car accident injury claims. If you have recently been involved in a rear-end collision, hiring a rear end accident lawyer may help you seek compensation for your injuries or property damages.
The Texas Department of Transportation was called to the scene to clean up a very large diesel spill from the 18-wheeler, an operation which lasted very late into the night.
