Wednesday marked exactly one week since anyone in Sabine County law enforcement has seen 25-year-old Matthew Hoy Edgar. He failed to show up in court on Thursday, January 27th for the fourth day of his murder trial, and the jury that afternoon found him guilty of the October 31st, 2020 murder of 19-year-old Livye Lewis. The following day, the jury sentenced him to 99 years in prison.
On Tuesday, Sabine County Sheriff Tom Maddox issued an update which said that his department has investigated numerous leads, but none of them have panned out. Maddox said he and his deputies would continue to check out any tips or leads that the department receives.
As of early Wednesday evening Edgar remained on the run.
Sheriff Maddox has cautioned people to not approach Edgar if you see him or know his whereabouts, and instead contact any local law enforcement agency or simply dial 911. You do not have to give your name.
