The Lufkin Police Department has lifted a precautionary evacuation and re-opened the streets were closed after a gas leak occurred in downtown Lufkin Thursday morning.
Jessica Pebsworth, a spokeswoman for the Lufkin Police Department, said that the people who were evacuated have returned and are back to business as usual.
Earlier Thursday, a gas leak prompted precautionary evacuations and road closures near downtown Lufkin.
Pebsworth said a gas main ruptured during excavation near the intersection of Bremond and South First.
The fire department evacuated a few nearby buildings as the precaution. First Street and Second Street were closed between Groesbeck and Paul.
Centerpoint was at the scene and worked to repair the leak.
