Dr. Albina Khaliapova and Dr. Eduard Teregulov will present a chamber music recital dedicated to music by women composers at Northwestern State University on Friday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. University COVID protocols will be in effect. Those attending are asked to wear a mask. A livestream of the concert will be available at capa.nsula.edu/livestream.

The recital is a part of the Women in Music concert series which aims to promote music by female composers and bring more diversity in classical music programming.

The program features music by composers from the 20th-21st centuries including Polina Nazaykinskaya, Rebecca Clarke, Alina Akhmetova, Galina Ustvolskaya and Florence Price.

Khaliapova is an educator, soloist, recitalist, collaborative pianist and piano instructor. Influenced by her mother, who is a piano teacher, she started her first music lessons at home at the age of four. By the age of seven, she was already admitted to the Secondary Special Music School in Russia, where she made her solo debut with an orchestra.

Khaliapova received a Master of Music degree from the University of South Florida, where she held a teaching assistant position and was awarded a President’s Piano Trio fellowship and a Doctor of Music Arts degree in Piano Performance from Louisiana State University.

As a leader of Homegrown New Music Ensemble dedicated to performing music by living composers Khaliapova works closely with contemporary composers. She is currently in process of commissioning works from several composers including Dr. Mara Gibson, Akhmetova, Hannah Rice, Michael Standard, and others.
