Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark says a Louisiana lady is undergoing treatment following a Friday afternoon crash in northeast Newton County. It happened at about 1:30 on Highway 63 near County Road 2103, east of Burkeville.
Clark said Bertha Weeks, 72, of Leesville, was driving westbound in a 1999 Chevrolet SUV. According to Clark, it is being reported that Weeks possibly suffered a sudden medical episode, resulting in the SUV traveling off of the north side of the highway where it struck a culvert, and then went off the south side of the highway and overturned.
Burkeville Fire Chief Charles Duckworth said his department responded and removed the woman from the vehicle, and she was then transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment.
