Kirbyville Man Dead Following Auto Crash Near Trout Creek

A 37-year-old Kirbyville man is dead following a two-vehicle auto accident that occurred on Tuesday evening in nearby Newton County.

Sergeant Stephanie Davis of the Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash occurred shortly after 6:00 on Highway 87, about three miles north of the Trout Creek Community, when a 2011 Nissan pick up truck, which was traveling northbound, for some unknown reason, crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2008 Nissan passenger car.

The driver of the passenger car, Kevin Dravenstott, was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Brenda Smith.

The driver of the pick up, Austin Lewis, 25, also of Kirbyville, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, where he was at last word still undergoing treatment for his injuries.

Davis said Thursday morning that the accident was still under investigation.
