An ex-deputy is on trial, accused of sex crimes involving children. Jurors heard testimony from three young girls in the trial of former Calcasieu Sheriff’s Deputy David Monceaux.
Late today, jurors heard Monceaux’s video confession admitting to sexual activity with the girls.
Monceaux is accused of two counts of first-degree rape and three counts of sexual battery of victims under thirteen. In this case, prosecutors say the three young girls ranged in age from four to eight at the time.
The alleged sex crimes came to light when one of the girls told a school counselor.
That child took the witness stand and told how she talked to the counselor after a sexual abuse prevention program for students on “good touch bad touch.”
The child testified she told the school counselor Monceaux “did bad touch” to her.
A second child clutched a teddy bear and cried as she struggled to answer questions saying several times she didn’t remember. But she did testify Monceaux touched her with his private part.
The youngest girl testified too saying he laid on top of her and it made her mad.
Jurors also heard recorded statements of the girls at the Child Advocacy Center where interviewers are trained to help small children express what happened to them.
At least two of the girls were allegedly told by Monceaux to keep what happened a secret always.
The crimes are alleged to have happened between 2013 and 2020.
If convicted as charged, Monceaux faces life in prison without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
In opening statements, Monceaux’s public defender indicated he admitted what he did saying “he unburdened himself” to the detective. But the defense attorney, King Alexander, asked jurors to reserve judgement until they have heard everything.
