Former San Augustine County Sheriff Don Michael Has Died

Former San Augustine County Sheriff William “Don” Michael has died. Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine says the longtime lawman passed away on Monday at his home in Bronson. He was 76.

A native of Lufkin, he first served in the U.S. Navy followed by a long career in law enforcement in several states. Here in Deep East Texas, he was a peace officer in San Augustine, Sabine, Angelina, and Nacogdoches counties.

He was elected Sheriff of San Augustine County in 2004 and served in that capacity until 2008.

Don Michael is survived by his wife, four daughters, two sons, thirteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Broaddus.
