Firefighters Continue to Battle Wildfires

Despite desperate pleas from local fire departments for residents to either cease outdoor burning or to use extreme caution, those same departments are continuing to have to respond to out of control fires on a daily basis, most of which are caused by carelessness.

Both the Beech Grove and Angelina River Fire Departments worked an out of control trash fire early Tuesday afternoon. It began shortly before 2:00 on Private Road 6309 just off of County Road 103, in the area of the old Fish Hatchery about 5 miles northwest of Jasper.

Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said the trash fire was left unattended, and the flames began spreading across the dead and dry winter vegetation.

The first firemen on the scene discovered that the flames were spreading very quickly toward two structures, but they were able to stop the fire just in time, and they had the rest of the blaze contained at about 2:15.
