The Federal Bureau of Investigation has now joined the officers from both Texas and Louisiana as they try to piece together the alleged kidnapping and murder of Jimmie Box, Jr.
Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles said Wednesday that and officers from the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Department in DeRidder along with representatives of the FBI are waiting on the results of an autopsy being performed at the Jefferson County Morgue in Beaumont on the body that was recovered on Monday near Bon Wier. Officers believe the remains to be that of Box. However, they have repeatedly said they have not positively made an identification.
The investigation into the disappearance of Box began in DeRidder on August 3rd when he was reported missing. However, the investigation moved to Newton County a few days later when an informant told officers with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Department that Box had been shot and killed and his body thrown in the Sabine River at Bon Wier.
Officers from both Texas and Louisiana continued to search the area and it was not until Monday that a body was found, not in the river, but instead on County Road 4075 at an oil field site just south of Bon Wier.
Four people, all from Louisiana have been charged in connection with an alleged kidnapping. However, so far, no charges have been filed in connection with the alleged murder as officers from both sides of the river continue to investigate the incident.
Those close to the case have said they believe Box was tied and bound and taken to the location near Bon Wier where he was killed with ropes still on his hands and arms. However, no one from law enforcement or investigating the case has confirmed that or released any information as to the cause of the death or a motive for the alleged crime.
