Only minor injuries were reported following a three-vehicle auto accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon, north of Jasper.
The volunteers of the Lake Rayburn Fire Department, along with other emergency crews, were dispatched to the location on Highway 96, just north of Recreational Road 255, shortly after 4:00, when it was reported that the crash had occurred resulting in one of the vehicles going into the edge of the woods.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark later said that a 2017 Ford passenger car was traveling northbound while a 2013 Ford SUV was traveling southbound. Clark said the driver of the Ford car made an unsafe left turn in front of the driver of the Ford SUV, resulting in the SUV striking the car.
Sergeant Clark identified the driver of the car as 18-year-old Cynthia Perkins, of Brookeland, and the driver of the SUV was 63-year-old Debra Moore, of Carthage.
Clark said Perkins and a 5-year-old child in her car were both transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment, while Moore refused treatment at the scene.
