A young child died at the scene and a woman is in very critical condition following a late Saturday morning single vehicle crash in far northwest Jasper County. It happened at about 9:30 on Recreational Road 255, near County Road 030.
Witnesses said deputy Kevin Holloway and the members of the Angelina River Fire Department went above and beyond in performing CPR and other steps in an attempt to save the young girl. However, despite their efforts, 4 year old Jasmine Lee Moya was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Brett Holloway.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said 22-year-old Abigail Lee, of Jasper, was driving a 2006 Hyundai passenger car eastbound at an unsafe speed while attempting to negotiate a curve when the car traveled off the road to the right and struck multiple trees.
Lee was flown by medical helicopter to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
