Caddo Teacher Accused of Having Sex with Senior Student

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office is investigating a now-former teacher for allegedly having sex with a student.

Mindie Elrod, who had been on staff at North Caddo High School for less than a year, was removed from campus Friday after she was issued a summons for prohibited sexual conduct between educator and student.

A Caddo schools spokeswoman confirmed Elrod is no longer employed, but she could not provide additional details.

Our sources say the student is 17 and is about to graduate high school. The relationship came to light on Snapchat.

She’s charged with prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student.

It seems like hardly a week passes without hearing about another Louisiana teacher in trouble with the law for having a sexual relationship with a student.

Some of these cases happened nearby.

Last week, Leona Nevin,s a former teacher from Prescott, Ark., was arrested for sexual misconduct with one of her students who is 15 years old.

Then there’s Schuyler Elliot, a teacher from Bossier Parish. He was having sex with one of his students, authorities said.

Then there’s Aubrey Norcross also from Bossier Parish. He is accused of sexually assaulting elementary students at his school.

David McMillian, a family therapist and licensed counselor, said most of these middle and high schoolers are vulnerable and teachers know it.

“I think you’re looking at a lot of vulnerability. You certainly are looking for– middle school and high school– you are looking at a lot of developmental issues and a lot happening developmentally. And we jokingly say that the hormones are raging. And we know that to be the case and educators know that t be the case,” said McMillian.

He added internet has opened a new line of communications between educator and student.

“It makes the communication more available. It’s easier to establish a back channel or off channel and what I mean by that is a separate from school communication. Outside of a specific classroom I would hope that it would be frowned upon and even have rules against it,” McMillian.

This family therapist says the best thing to do is to get help immediately, whether you are a teacher or a student.

If you know of a teacher who is having an inappropriate conduct with a student, report it immediately.
