A Caddo Parish teacher who’s also part of a high school coaching staff is in custody on a child pornography charge.
James Allen Opie, 33, of the 3000 block of Akard Avenue in Shreveport, is held in the Caddo Correctional Center on a charge of pornography involving a juvenile. His bond is set at $100,000.
Shreveport police assisted the FBI Wednesday in a search of Opie’s home, according to the arrest report. His address is also given as the “location of offense.”
The report also has check marks by “yes” concerning prior arrests and whether a “rap sheet” was attached to the report.
Opie has been employed by the Caddo Parish School Board since 2010 as a teacher and member of the football coaching staff at C.E. Byrd High School School. He’s been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is board policy, according to a statement from Mary Nash-Wood, Caddo Parish School Board spokeswoman.
“The district takes these allegations seriously and is fully cooperating with law enforcement. There is no evidence at this time to suggest the allegations took place during work hours, on district property or involving district staff or students,” she states.
