21-Year-Old Woman Dies After ATV Rollover Crash in Jasper County

A 21-year-old woman died in a rollover crash involving an all-terrain vehicle that occurred on County Road 096 in Jasper County Sunday evening.

According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to and investigated the crash, which occurred at about 7 p.m. Sunday. The crash occurred on CR 096 just west of FM 2800.

Preliminary reports show that the ATV was traveling on FM 2800 and turned onto CR 096.

“The driver was traveling at an unsafe speed as she entered a sharp curve. The vehicle flipped several times before coming to rest,” the press release stated. “The driver was partially ejected from the ATV.”

Jalia Franklin, of Jasper, was identified as the driver of the ATV. She was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by emergency room personnel, the press release stated.

The passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was also taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital. According to the press release, his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The crash is still under investigation.

KJAS.com story stated that Franklin was a two-time state qualifier for the Newton High School track team and that she was a sophomore at Crowley College in Kansas.
