A judge has arraigned 17 year-old Jose Gabriel Cortez on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Cortez was arrested on Thursday by Port Arthur police following a shooting at La Vaquita near Thomas Jefferson Middle School that injured two students. Cortez is being held on a $200,000 bond.
Police in Port Arthur say it all began at 4:13 P.M., when an officer heard gunshots from the area. Multiple officers responded and located two subjects that had been shot. Both were transported to local hospitals and are currently being treated for their injuries.
