Authorities have released the name of the 11-year-old who died in a UTV accident in Webster Parish that also injured his 14-year-old sister.
Killed in the wreck of the utility terrain vehicle about three miles east of Doyline was Plain Dealing resident, Morris Naron, according to Louisiana State Police.
Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker told KSLA News 12 the crash occurred at 3:22 p.m. Sunday, June 20 on Bistineau Terrace Road south of Doyline.
The 14-year-old was driving the UTV and her brother was ejected from the vehicle, the sheriff added.
Preliminary investigation shows the 14-year-old was driving the 2011 Polaris UTV north on Grant Circle when she lost control of the vehicle as she turned left onto Bistineau Terrace Road, said Trooper Jonathan Odom of Louisiana State Police Troop G.
The UTV overturned. Naron, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected during the crash.
The 14-year-old sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
The children and their family were in Webster Parish visiting relatives, the sheriff said.
Louisiana State Police is investigating the accident.
LSP’s Bossier City-based Troop G has investigated 13 fatal crashes that have resulted in 14 deaths in 2021.
“Troopers would like to stress the importance of utilizing proper safety equipment such as approved helmets and seat belts when operating any off-road vehicle,” Odom said. “Additionally, it is dangerous and illegal to operate off-road vehicles (i.e. three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other all-terrain vehicles) on any public roadway in this state.”
