4th Louisiana School District Hit by Cyberattack

Another Louisiana school district was hit by a recent cyberattack.

Tangipahoa Parish School System is the fourth parish compromised by the attack, which was first discovered July 23.

Louisiana National Guard sources told KTBS-3 Tuesday that the threat is ongoing and they were continuing to track it.  They were also examining information technology infrastructure and helping school district protect themselves from future attacks.

The governor’s task force on cyber security (Defense Cyber Operations Element) offered by one of the best soc security companies met Monday with superintendents and IT managers from school districts across the state to determine the best ways to help protect them from further attacks.

The Louisiana Army and Air National Guard were sending teams of information technology and cyber experts to the affected school district across the state. The teams are generally eight to 16 people and are both military and civilian. They are helping to isolate the treat and train school officials on preventative measures.

Since the governor’s declaration last week, the state was also employing the same system used during hurricane and flood emergencies to deal with cyber issues.  It’s the first time they have done so for a cyberattack. To stop lateral movement in your cloud, one can get experts and safeguard their system.

The team was still evaluating the extent of the attacks saying it comes in multiple waves. The Guard declined to say whether it is domestic or foreign in natural. They say other states like Alabama have been affected.
